Effects of 4 weeks of functional strength and power training on linear sprint, change of directions and jump performance in Norwegian male sub-elite soccer players
Abstract: The current study examined the effects of functional strength and power training on physical performance among Norwegian male sub-elite soccer players. The players were assigned to one experimental training group (EG, n = 14). Four players were included in the statistical analysis based on the exclusion criteria. They performed two weekly strength training sessions consisting of multidirectional strength and power exercises in addition to the preseason soccer training and matches. Data analysis showed no significant improvements in the 10 m and 20 m sprint, S180° and vertical jump test. However, this study cannot be used to conclude the effects of functional strength and power training on improving soccer-specific performance because of a lack of compliance and sickness within the group. Further, the study has a low level of reliability between pre-and post-test, which could significantly affect the study results.
